Albert Bierstadt, German/American Painter 1830-1902
Albert Bierstadt was a German/American painter who was best known for his large landscapes paintings of the American West. Bierstadt joined with many journeys of the west expansion in order to get paint these landscapes in hard to reach parts of America. While not the first artist to paint these parts of western America his work is the foremost during this time.
Albert Bierstadt was also a part of an informal group of artists know as the Hudson River School whose style involved carefully detailed paintings with an almost glowing lighting which is known as luminism.
