Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890)
Vincent Van Gogh was born on the 30 March 1853 in southern Netherlands, he was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist and during his career he painted some of the world’s most well known, popular and expensive works of art. During the last ten years of his life Vincent Van Gogh produced more than 2,000 works, 900 of these paintings and 1,100 various drawings and sketches. Some of these including, The Starry Night, The Café Terrace on the Place du Forum, Arles, at Night and Vase with Twelve Sunflowers.He is today widely regarded as one of history's greatest painters and an important contributor to the foundations of modern art.
Vincent led a troubled life struggling with breakdowns and recurrent mental illness one such occourance ended when Vincent cut off part of his left ear. Vincent died at the age of 37 when he shot himself in the chest with a revolver and died two days later, his last words were "La tristesse durera toujours" or "the sadness will last forever". He was finally buried in the Auvers sur Oise cemetery.
