A Meadow in the Mountains Le Mas de Saint Paul (1889)

Van Gogh painted A Meadow in the Mountains in 1889. It depicts a meadow with a few small houses in it set among mountain peaks. The coloring of the painting is not as bright as many earlier Van Gogh works. Some harmony is incorporated between the sky and the field, with the sky being more yellow than the fields below. The mountains are bulky and lack the elegance of either of the meadow or sky. The coloring and motive could indicate that Van Gogh at the time of this painting is feeling a bit more bleak.
